A brief stop in Fiji for my connecting flight this morning, just in time last night to catch the pink orange golden sunsets. Left Apia in Samoa at 5.55 pm, arrived here at 5.50 pm. Other odd thing, get this! When I went to Samoa from Tahiti via Auckland, I kept time of the time zones and I was in the same “time zone” as Tahiti but a DAY apart. Suppose the date line cuts right through that space. Fun facts but for a while there I had fog in my head!
Samoa. Sigh. One of the most beautiful places I have been to. Lush, natural, peaceful, each scene therapeutic, humble smiling people, flowers everywhere, relatively untouched, expansive, deep breaths. Yet infrastructure okay, service slow but genuine, no one in a rush, it works. Meet Peter and Kiri my guides for my stay. They have two kids, boy girl. When I asked if education was paid for they laughed “nothing is free!”. He is Methodist she Catholic. I asked what the children would be. They said they would let the children decide. Which church did they get married in? Methodist. Reason: he did not have to attend pre-marital classes. I asked Kiri if he behaved himself, she let out a loud chuckle. The house behind them is recently bought by the Chinese. They said the Christian influence on the island(s) of 180,000 people is now paralleled by the economic influence of the Chinese. They are smart he said, they know we love food and are investing in supermarkets. Food rules! Yet again!
Cruise over. Still felt I was rocking and for a moment I thought we had a tremor in Tahiti, but then discovered it is natural to feel giddy after a rocky boat ride!!!!!
People chase pearls in Tahiti. I fared much much better and met just the most wonderful people. Bonded. Met for a final final farewell drink last night and now look forward to our Toronto reunion in June🌹.
Most “wow” moment:walking on the ocean floor with exotic colored fish and the friendliest sting ray. They give you 80 pound helmets to “sink” down and a steady oxygen supply is maintained. Aquarium feeling:)
Imagine yourself here. Postcard perfect.
